The state of agro-ecology in Cameroon
In 2022, SAILD published studies on the state of agro-ecology in Cameroon. The first was a mapping of agroecological actors and practices, and the second was an analysis of the political, legal and institutional framework for agroecology in Cameroon. The main findings of these studies, which were presented to various stakeholders, led to the conclusion that agroecology was not sufficiently well known among Cameroonian civil society players.
The Network for the Promotion of Agroecology in Cameroon (NEPAC) was born in November 2023 from the will of some twenty Cameroonian civil society organizations through a participatory and sequenced process.

Reflecting on agroecology for a better understanding
At the beginning of 2023, civil society players met to reflect on how to improve their understanding of agroecology. These discussions highlighted the urgent need to promote agroecology in Cameroon in order to achieve food sovereignty, combat the effects of climate change and preserve biodiversity. At the end of the discussions, it became clear that a strategy was needed to promote agroecology in Cameroon.
NEPAC,Network for the Promotion of Agroecology in Cameroon will the network in charge of promoting agroecology methods in Cameroon and beyond.
Drafting founding documents
Once the strategy for promoting agroecology had been drawn up by civil society players, the dilemma of how to implement it arose. The civil society organizations present at the meeting unanimously agreed to set up an inclusive and sustainable entity to implement the agroecology promotion strategy, and so a charter was drawn up to create the Network for Promotion of Agroecology in Cameroon (NEPAC).
