Network for the Promotion of Agroecology in Cameroon (NEPAC) is a non-profit environmental and developmental movement working primarily in Cameroon and the Congo Basin at large in the areas of Agroecology, and Conservation
Composition
The Network for the Promotion of Agroecology in Cameroon (NEPAC) is a network of
producer and consumer organisations, NGOs, associations, universities, research institutes and
the private sector committed to the agroecological transition.
Vision
Agroecology in Cameroon is the driving force behind sustainable and competitive agro-sylvo-
pastoral, fisheries and wildlife production that respects the environment, consumer health and
cultural values, and is resilient in the face of climate change.
Mission
Our mission is to promote and support the development of agroecology in Cameroon through
collaboration, advocacy, research, awareness-raising, experience-sharing, education and support
for areas in transition.
Our objectives
- Build and strengthen the capacity of network members to better understand the concept of agroecology;
- Raise awareness of the need for agroecological transition among all stakeholders in Cameroon
and the Congo Basin; - To share experiences and establish and develop strategic alliances within the framework of national, sub-regional and international networks;
- Promote cooperation and exchanges between agro-ecology stakeholders in Cameroon and the Congo Basin, including farmers, researchers, NGOs, cooperatives and other organisations and individuals working for agro-ecology;
- To help inform policy decisions and participate in consultation frameworks at national, sub-
regional and international level with a view to making regulatory frameworks more favourable to
the agro-ecological transition; - To promote and support the adoption of agro-ecological practices by small-scale farmers and rural communities in Cameroon and the Congo Basin;
- Conduct research and produce publications on agroecology and related topics, including the
documentation and dissemination of traditional and indigenous knowledge; - Give priority to the involvement and participation of women, young people and marginalised
communities in all the network's activities and programmes; - Identify funding opportunities for the promotion of agroecology in Cameroon and the Congo Basin;
Values and principles
The fundamental values and principles underpinning the work of the network are such that
NEPAC undertakes to respect them;
Principles
- Promote ecological intensification and biodiversity conservation in agriculture;
Develop local and regional food systems that are socially just, environmentally sustainable and
economically viable; - Support the rights of small farmers and rural communities to access resources and markets and to participate in decision-making processes;
- Promote gender equality and empower women in agricultural systems;
- Encourage the use of traditional and indigenous knowledge in agriculture;
- Support research and education on agro-ecology and related topics;
- To improve collaboration between the various players in the agroecology movement in order to achieve its objectives.
